Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) completes 20 years of operation in India this year. Celebrating it in style, the company has announced that it will bring special editions of the Grand i10 and the Xcent in May and April this year.
“2016 is important for us. To celebrate 20 years of our success, we will introduce a special edition of Xcent this April at a competitive price for Indian customers. In May, we will roll out a special edition of i10, with new features and styling,” said Mr. Y.K. Koo, managing director of HMIL. When questioned about other launches, he said that the company has plans to introduce the facelifted Elantra in 2016.
Hyundai is likely to make slight aesthetic changes on the skin for both of the cars, but interiors might see an overhaul. Some of the anticipated changes include addition of sport pedals and special floor mats. We can also expect some features – such as steering mounted buttons, reverse sensors and rear spoiler – from the top-end variants to be made available in the special editions.
We do not expect any changes in the mechanical drives and the transmission duties. Both the cars are powered by 1.2-litre petrol and 1.1-litre diesel engines. While the power figures of the petrol stands at 82bhp and 112Nm, the diesel motor produces 71bhp/180Nm and 70bhp/160Nm in the Xcent and the Grand i10, respectively. Transmission duties are carried out by a standard 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 4-speed automatic.
Launching of special editions by various carmakers has become quite the rage. Maruti Suzuki brought out a special edition of the S-Cross recently. So did Toyota and Tata, of their cars, the Etios Liva and the Zest. While such editions help carmakers bring excitement to the market, customers also end up getting a better deal.
