However, Volkswagen India might consider to bring down the cost of the small car under Rs 3 lakhs based on the Indian affordability standards. The Volkswagen Up is more of a Maruti A-star competitor, apart from the rivals in the segment being, Maruit Alto and Hyundai Eon. The VW UP will come affixed with a 3-cylinder 1.0 L petrol engine to churn out a peak power of 59 Bhp and a peak torque of 75 Nm. The new car is likely to score high with phenomenal mileage at the same time low on emissions to make it a perfect option for the Indian consumers. The India bound model is likely to be devoid of the BlueMotion technology, which is incorporated in the other overseas model.

Volkswagen has envisaged the new small car to be an ideal choice of a small Indian family with five doors and a seating capacity for four. Volkswagen India will showcase the upcoming car in the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, which is the first car among the German manufacturer’s options of introducing more cars in the country. The other cars offered by Volkswagen India are Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Passat, Volkswagen Beetel, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Phaeton and Volkswagen Touareg.
