Based on the same platform as the Hyundai Venue, the Sonet’s prices should be similar to its sibling, right?
Update (18/09/2020): Kia has launched the Sonet with prices beginning from Rs 6.71 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.
Owning a Kia in India will soon get more affordable with the launch of its sub-4m SUV, the Sonet. Pre-launch bookings for the Sonet are underway for a token sum of Rs 25,000 while the launch will take place around mid-September. If you are planning to book in advance or sorting your finances to buy the Sonet, then these expected prices will certainly come in handy. Before we talk money let’s look at the heart of the matter: specifications.

The Kia Sonet will be offered an with plenty of powertrain options to choose from. While the basics are identical to the Venue, there are few differences that set the Sonet apart. These differences are likely to add a bit more to the Sonet’s cost:
-
For starters, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine on the Sonet will only get a 6-speed iMT whereas the Venue also gets a manual transmission.
-
The diesel option with a 6-speed torque converter automatic is unique to the Sonet. On top of that, the automatic’s specifications are better than the manual variant.
The Sonet will follow the same variant listing as its sibling, the Seltos. So you’ll get two separate trim lines that cater to a different type of audience; Tech Line and GT Line. Now without any further ado, let’s look at the expected prices.

We expect Kia to price the Sonet competitively in the beginning and entry-level pricing could even undercut the Hyundai Venue’s current prices. This is likely to spur initial interest in the Kia Sonet since it will be entering a crowded segment that’s already populated by stalwarts like the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Vitara Brezza. Before signing off, let’s look at the ex-showroom prices of its major competitors.
