Tata Motor’s Land Rover has observed a record growth in the US market. The carmaker's sales increased by 37% for the year 2015 and the company sold 70,582 units last year. Land Rover topped the chart for sales growth in the US for 2015.
Discovery Sport accounted for 10% of the overall sales for the carmaker. Sitting somewhere towards the bottom of the range, it helped Land Rover enhance its reach in the market. Discovery Sport comes with a price tag of $37,455 in the US. “It allowed us to attract an all-new customer to the Land Rover brand,” admitted Joe Eberhardt, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover (North American Division). Apart from this, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover accounted for 20 and 25 percent of the total sales respectively. Range Rover is the flagship product of the automaker and costs $85,000 in the United States.
Although the numbers do not look gigantic, but JLR says that they do not focus on large numbers, rather they want their products to be prestigious. The market has been flooded with SUVs from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, and customers who can afford such cars started searching for something unique. Kevin Tynan, an Intelligence Analyst, said that a growing fleet of SUVs from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes had customers aching for a less ubiquitous ride. “They all start to bleed into each other and people want something a little different. Land Rover has also gone through a reasonable resurgence in the perception of quality,” he further added.
“I think cool Britannia, to some degree, is coming back again,” said Eberhardt expressing his satisfaction over the performance.
