Luxury cars received significant expression of interest at Auto Expo

10th Auto Expo was not only confined to small cars; some of the leading global luxury carmakers also exhibited their models at the grand show and caught the interest of prospective buyers to their pavilion. Auto expo had shown the raise in demand for luxury on wheels and the aspiration of Indian car buyers as auto companies such as BMW and Mercedes had attracted more than the anticipated enquiries for their car models.
Mercedes India had exhibited twelve different car models at the expo ranging from Rs 25-lakh to Rs 6-crore which received a decent response from the consumers.
Dr Wilfred Aulbur, MD and CEO, Mercedes Benz India commented on this that they put up a wide range of products at the auto expo and consumers in India responded very favourably. Mercedes had seen significant demand for its cars in India and was eyeing very strong for double digit growth by the end of 2010, he further stated. The models that Mercedes showcased at the auto expo were the new S-500 L car, priced at Rs 95 lakh and its new SUV, the GL 350 CDI, priced at Rs 64.90 lakh.
BMW India, another luxury passenger carmaker at auto expo had unveiled three new car models- sports car Gran Turismo, sports coupe’ X6M and super luxury sedan 760Li ranging from Rs 63-lakh- Rs 1.3 crore. The company also displayed its X1 car which is to be launched later this year.
Last year only 9,000 high-end automobiles were sold out of the 1.8 million passenger vehicles in India. However, with multi-million dollar investment commitments by luxury car companies the luxury car market is growing at a fast pace.
Fiat 500, a premium car of Fiat brand also got significant expression of interest from the consumers at the auto expo.
Rajeev Kapoor, president and CEO, Fiat India said that at the auto expo they were busy fielding queries from consumers about the Fiat 500 and concluded that Indian car consumers are getting brand conscious.
The auto expo expressed the feel of the market. It was the European car brands that were more prominent at the expo than their Japanese counterparts.
Skoda, premium automobile brand also showcased three premium cars at the seven-day extravaganza and claims to have got over 10,000 enquiries for its cars.
