Mahindra has showcased its Verito Electric at the 2016 Auto Expo. This is an electric variant of the Verito sedan which was unable to garner much attention from the consumers. Mahindra should launch the car soon, as emissions from IC engines are under severe scrutiny. It will be an addition to the electric portfolio which includes the successfully running e2o. Also, Mahindra has given a good performance in the Formula E event and Anand Mahindra became a member of Formula E sustainability committee.

If reports are to be believed, Mahindra will be launching the electric Verito later in February 2016. It will be driven by the same drivetrain which is used in the Mahindra e2o. The car has a 72V, 3-phase AC induction motor with a maximum power output of 40bhp @ 3500rpm. The torque figures stand at 91Nm @ 3000rpm and this motor is coupled to an automatic transmission. This gives the car a claimed top speed of 86 km/h and a range of 100 kms in a 7-hour full charge. Electric Verito also features hill-hold and stand-still pick up to assist the driver. It was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The car will also drive benefit from the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles) scheme enabling subsidies on electric vehicles.

The last public showcase of the car was on June 5, 2015, when it was driven from India Gate to Terminal 3 of the IGI Airport in New Delhi. This drive was part of a green rally drive called ‘The FAME India Eco Drive’. This was an initiative of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India in association with Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), SMEV and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). Alongside the E-Verito, there were 10 e2os and an electric Maxximo. Arvind Mathew, chief executive of Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles said, “We are exploring similar models in other parts of the country.” He further added “If we can scale to 40,000 cars, prices will drop.”
