Soon there will be announcement from the Indian auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra about the price hike on its cars in all segments from January, 2011. The Indian utility maker blames the rising price of commodity for the hike in its car prices. With this M&M is another auto giant who will join the price hike club from January.

As per the industry sources, Arun Malhotra, the Senior Vice President (Sales and Customer Care, Automotive Sector) in Mahindra & Mahindra revealed that the company will surely increase the price of its cars from January but it is still taking a toil on finalising the new prices. He further added that the price hike will be in all the car segments the company offers from passenger to commercial vehicles. But Mr Malhotra did not disclose on the percentage of price hike on the Mahindra car models. If the sources are to be believed the auto company will raise the price due to the hike in the cost of raw materials mainly steel and rubber which has shown accelerating rise in the prices this year. The car models Mahindra offers are Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Scorpio W and Mahindra Xylo.

Recently, Mahindra India straighten its profile by launching a new SUV like Jeep Mahindra Thar at a price of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). This new SUV truly reflects style, power and performance especially those who like taking a ride on the rough terrains. The new classic jeep will remind the car admirer of its descendants. As per the report, Mahindra said that the company is planning to introduce a new pick up truck also which will be affixed with a capacity of more than 1.2 tonn carriage. The truck will be coming in the first six months of the coming year.

The new year will witness a price hike not only in Mahindra cars but also it includes various other auto giants such as General Motors and Hyundai Motor India which is expected to increase the price by 1.5 to 3 per cent on its respective cars. The auto companies have also reasoned the price hike due to increasing production and raw material cost. Tata Motors, is also planning a price hike from January but on few selected car models leaving Tata Aria and Tata Nano. Volkswagen will only increase the price of its popular hatchback Volkswagen Polo by 2.9 per cent from January, 2011.
