Mahindra Renault Logan's sales dipped more then 60% in this fiscal

The Mahindra Renault Logan, a JV vehicle from Mahindra-Renault in India is struggling to compete with other entry level sedans in India. At a time when almost all car makers in India has increased price of their vehicles due to a 2 percent excise duty increase by the government of India, the Mahindra Renault dealers across the country are offering discounts upto Rs 50,000 on the only sedan of this JV, the Mahindra Renault Logan model.
Where a Dealer based in New Delhi told PTI that he is offering discounts upto 50,000 on both diesel and petrol variants , a dealer in Guwahati is claimed to be offering discount of Rs 18,000 on petrol version and Rs 50,000 on Diesel version.
Renault recently announced that it is planning to restructure its JV with Mahindra & Mahindra with plans to built its own manufacturing facility in India. Renault has also invested heavily at its Chennai plant with its JV partners Nissan and Bajaj for an ultra low cost car modal.
In this fiscal Mahindra-Renault managed to sell only 4,981 units in the April-February period of 2009-10, accounted for a decrease of 60.03 per cent as compare to the same period of last year.
