The XUV300 has got off to a good start but segment leader Maruti Vitara Brezza is almost three-times ahead in terms of sales

75 per cent bookings are for top-end variants of the XUV300.
-
Manages to beat Ford EcoSport and Honda WR-V in February sales; Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon still ahead.

With over 13,000 bookings, expect longer waiting periods for the XUV300.
The all-new Mahindra XUV300 was launched in February with prices ranging between Rs 7.90 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In the four weeks since its launch, the newest entrant to the sub-4m SUV segment racked up over 13,000 bookings, indicating a high amount of interest for the model among car buyers. However, we cannot confirm if this number includes the 4,000 or so pre-bookings Mahindra had announced prior to the XUV300’s launch.
However, in terms of bookings translating to sales, Mahindra registered 4,484 units of the XUV300 in February 2019. It’s a decent number to start off with and puts the XUV300 at third spot behind the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. The Nexon, though, seems to have been unfazed by the XUV300’s entry having sold slightly more units (5,263 vs 5,095) in February compared to January. The Brezza, on the other hand, has taken a slight hit with a sales figure of 11,613 units in February, which is over 1,500 units less than the month before.
Having said that, the XUV300 does appear to have snapped up a sizeable share of the sub-compact SUV segment in its first month despite being priced higher than the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. The high booking numbers for the XUV300 could also spell longer waiting periods - around two months or more - for those who place an order for it now.
The XUV300 is offered with a choice of 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, both of which can only be had with a manual transmission. The sub-compact SUV is available in four variants - W4, W6, W8 and W8(O) - and offers some segment-first features in its higher variants. It faces strong rivalry from the likes of the aforementioned Brezza and Nexon, as well as the Ford EcoSport, Honda WR-V and Ford Freestyle.
