Takeaways
Alto bounces back after slow March: Maruti has been selling almost 22,000 units of the entry level hatchback monthly on an average over the last six months -- and after a little dip in March (16,826 units), it is back where it belongs. Maruti clocked sales of almost 23000 units in April 2019. This jump in sales can be attributed to the fact that Maruti launched the Alto’s facelift on 23 April.
Kwid consistent month after month: The Kwid competes with the Alto and thus its achievements are often overshadowed. However, Renault’s entry level hatchback with a SUV-ish stance has repeated its performance month after month. Take one look at its sales for March, April and then the average sales over the last six months and you will know what we are talking about. A facelift for the Kwid is expected in the second half of 2019.
Datsun redi-GO’s numbers take a hit: The redi-GO has just been keeping north of the 1000 unit mark but April 2019 sees it go south of that milestone. Datsun has seen its market share reduce by more than 28 per cent compared to the previous month.
Entry level hatchbacks continue to do well: With more premium features now available in relatively inexpensive cars, the entry level hatchback segment’s future was not set in stone. However, the demand for these cars continues to be consistent and the segment saw a 20 per cent month-on-month growth.
