Maruti cars to be gifted to CWG winners at Haryana's 'Chak De' Event

The state of Haryana will soon be organizing the grand and interesting 'Chak de Haryana - Chak de India' function on November 1, 2010. This function will be organized at the Sonipat town of Haryana to honour the various medal winners and participants from Haryana who made India proud at the recently held Commonwealth Games 2010 at New Delhi.

The Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda stated that the name of the function – “'Chak de Haryana - Chak de India” is motivated by the successful and inspiring movie 'Chak De! India' starring  Shahrukh Khan in the lead role. In the recently held Commonwealth Games 2010, India won a totol of one hundred one medal. Out of these total 101 medals of India, the sportspersons of Haryana  made an important contribution by winning 32 medals. In the medals tally of Commonwealth Games 2010, India stood at the second place behind Australia. The  government of Haryana had made an announcement that the sportspersons of Haryana who won gold medal, silver medal and bronze medals at the Commonwealth games 2010 will get a cash prize Rs.15 lakh, Rs.10 lakh and Rs.7 lakh respectively. These players will also get Maruti cars from Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) that has its facility located in Gurgaon.

As per the announcements, the gold medal winners will be gifted with Maruti SX4 car, the winners of silver medals will get Maruti Swift Dzire and the winners of bronze medals will get a Maruti Wagon R model. The Chief Minister, Mr. Hooda stated that the sportspersons are being rewarded and honoured for encouraging them to perform even better in the coming Asian Games and the Olympics. The Chief Minister said that they want the players to win even more medals and motivate others for taking sports seriously. The government of Haryana has included players like Commonwealth Games gold medal winner Gagan Narang for shooting, Saina Nehwal for badminton, Krishna Poonia for discus and Sushil Kumar for wrestling, in the celebration that is going to take place on November 1.
