To maintain its grip in the Indian Market, India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has adopted a price cutting strategy for Maruti Eeco. It has priced its Multi Purpose Vehicle Eeco at Rs 1 lakh less than its Versa. Maruti has dominated the Indian automarket for nearly 30 years but the array of cheap models from its rivals is forcing the company down the same path. At the auto expo, Maruti has announced that 5-seater version of Eeco will be priced at 2.59 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi),and the 7-seater model at Rs 2.75 lakhs(ex-showroom Delhi).
Though Maruti has refurbished Eeco with an Euro IV emission-compliant engine and upgraded aerodynamics still the company has managed to keep the price of 5-seater AC version lower than the Versa’s basic price of Rs 3.63 lakh. Maruti has come up with the target to sell 40,000 units of the Eeco annually. Maruti Suzuki managing director and chief executive Shinzi Nakanishi commented at the Eeco launch that they were offering the special price to target the customers who wanted to upgrade from smaller van Maruti Omni. He also added that this price was an invitation price and would be reviewed based on customer feedback.
