Maruti India planning to shift production to Gurgaon Facility

Due to the huge losses suffered by ongoing strike of workers in Manesar plant, and failing to resolve the issues quickly, Maruti India is now planning to shift the production of Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift DZire and Maruti SX4 models to its Gurgaon plant. Reports suggest that Maruti India’s backlog in production is accumulated to 11,000 cars by Wednesday. It is worth mentioning that in 2009, Maruti Suzuki shifted the production of Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift DZire sedan cars to Manesar factory from its Gurgaon facility.

Senior Officials at Maruti India said that company is searching for measures to continue production lines of its cars at the Gurgaon factory, in case ongoing strike of workers continues further. On Wednesday, the dialogues between the Maruti India management and the agitating workers failed, indicating the further continuation of strike.

Officials further commented that Maruti India is planning to re-furbish the production strategy so as to handle unexpected situations. Company was earlier manufacturing Maruti Swift from Gurgaon and some changes are to be done so as to start production of other cars in Gurgaon plant. He also added that this move can be taken as a back-up plan to keep the production of best selling cars in process during the conditions like this.

It is worth mentioning that Indian car industry is already witnessing the slowdown in car sales and with increase in petrol prices, the demand of diesel variants cars in India like Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire is also increasing. Maruti India Spokesperson said that obstructions in production signify challenges for Maruti India and its business associates. He added that company’s Gurgaon unit is working at full throttle and Maruti Suzuki is searching for other options to increase the production at the facility. Furthermore, he said that it is not easy for Maruti India to shift the production of new Maruti car models which were manufactured at Manesar due to high cost of production and long time duration and company is still in process of thinking the alternative options.
