Maruti India sales slips 53.2% in October

India’s leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India's October sales report suggests that the auto major had sold 55,595 units including domestic sales and exports of passenger and commercial vehicles with a drop of 53.2% from last October sales of 1,18,902. Maruti Suzuki India’s domestic sales have witnessed a dip by 52.2% at 51,45 8 units from 107,555 during the corresponding time last year. The company exports have suffered by 63.6% to 4,137 from 11,353 units during last October.

The recent labour unrest at the MSI’s Manesar plant has impacted the company’s sales negatively with the production loss of 40,000 units in the month of October. The cumulative sales for the company until October during the financial year 2011-2012 is reported to have fallen by 17.7% to 589,428 units from 715,886 during the same period last FY2010-2011. The sales report shows a drop of 55.1% sales in passenger car segment of Maruti India to 41,192 units from 91,754 units in 2010 October. Among the passenger vehicles, the mid-sized sedan segment comprising of Maruti SX4 is drastically hit with a drop in sales by 83.8% from 11,936 units of 2010 October to 10,229 units.

The compact hatchback segment that comprises of Maruti Swift, Maruti A-Star, Maruti Estillo, Maruti Ritz and Maruti Wagon R has also suffered a decrease in sales of 56.1%. The mini car segment sales of Maruti India comprising of Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto have fallen to 25,009 units this month from 55,404 units last October recording 54.9%. The compact sedan Maruti Swift Dzire sales are the least affected among the Maruti India cars recording 48.1% drop to 5001 units in October. The cumulative sales of passenger car segment in the first half of the FY 2011-2012 has witnessed a dip in sales by 19% to 432,070 units from 533,653 units during the corresponding period last year.
