The latest reports from Maruti India confirm that the key culprits behind the recent labour unrest costing Rs 1,600 crores loss to the company have resigned from the company with the full and final settlement. The 30 suspended employees were found guilty including the Maruti India Trade union representatives Sonu Gujjar and Shiv Kumar who have received a sum ranging fromRs 16 lakh to Rs 40 lakhs as cash settlement from Maruti India. The two leaders were out of contact since October 22nd. The other 28 wokers have received an amount of Rs 16 lakhs as cash settlement. Maruti Suzuki India had been the target of multiple labour unrests during this year.
The 13 day strike in June for the recognition of the Maruti Suzuki Employee Union (MSEU) had resulted in a major production and monetary loss for the company. The Maruti strike has recurred on August 29th as the company has forced the workers to sign the good conduct bond before entering the company premises to act against the sabotaged operations. The MSI workers have called the strike once again on October 7th with the demand for reinstating 1200 contract employees apart from the 50 employees dismissed from the earlier strike. However, Maruti Suzuki India and the employees have now reached an amicable solution after partially agreeing to the workers demand to induct 64 employees and 1200 contract workers apart from the formation of a ‘Grievance Redressal Committee’ and ‘Labour Welfare Union’ to avoid further miscommunications.
