Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is thinking over to roll out a 660 cc car in India. It will be on the lines of the Cervo Mode and the Alto of Japan. Commenting on the news Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director of Maruti Suzuki said that before launching the car, the company has to study its feasibility with the K-series engine. On the other hand, for this purpose the company has to increase the capacity of Manesar and Gurgaon assembly lines and at present it is not possible due to the waiting period for models like the Swift and Swift Dzire. Moreover, the cost of the car would go high as the 660 cc engine needs to be upgraded to meet Bharat IV norms. MSI is also planning to upgrade the Omni engine, which is to be phased out by 2015, to make it compliant with the Bharat IV norms and roll out an executive sedan to compete with the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic.
