Maruti plans to develop new 800cc car in India

According to Mr. I.V. Rao, Managing Executive Officer (Engineering) Maruti Suzuki India, Maruti is intensively working on designing a totally new concept and for this the engineers at Maruti Suzuki India are determined to generate something new which has not been done so far.

Denying about the issues related to pricing of the new 800cc car, Mr. Rao, said that the main concern is to manufacture a car that can equally run parallel to Maruti Alto which at present is the largest selling car in the country with an average of 30,000 units sold every month. Mr. Rao also denied that the new 800cc car will be an upgraded version of erstwhile Maruti 800 model which has already been taken out from 13 leading metro cities due to lagging behind the emission norms and will be removed from the other cities in different phases during the coming years.

According to Mr. Rao, the new 800cc car will be a newly designed car although made on the same pattern of existing cars from Maruti Suzuki India. The major focus is to initiate own ideas developed at Maruti by receiving the minimum support from the parent company Suzuki Motors from Japan. Mr. Rao further added that the team at Maruti Suzuki India had repolished the existing cars.
