Maruti may claim to have created a new segment with the S-Presso, but when it comes to pricing, it has many rivals to compete with

The Maruti S-Presso has finally been launched as a new entry-level, mini cross-hatch offering. It is based on the K version of Suzuki’s lightweight Heartect platform. The S-Presso is priced between Rs 3.69 lakh to Rs 4.91 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Maruti offers the S-Presso with a 1.0-litre BS6 petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT option. Renault Kwid Facelift Launched At Rs 2.83 Lakh

    • The Datsun redi-GO manages to undercut every other car here.

    • The S-Presso’s starting price is higher than that of both the Datsun models.

    • As expected, the Alto K10 is more affordable than the S-Presso since it is positioned under it.

    • Meanwhile, the WagonR has the highest starting price here followed by the Celerio.

    • The top-end S-Presso is marginally more expensive than the Kwid.

Cars In Demand: Maruti WagonR Still The Most Sought-after Compact Hatchback

    • The Kwid facelift offer dual front airbags as an optional on the top-spec variants with the driver airbag as standard. However, the S-Presso offers the option from the base variant itself and that is the starting price listed above.

    • Maruti also offers a more rugged iteration of the Celerio called the Celerio X, which is priced between Rs 4.75 lakh and Rs 5.52 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

    • Barring the Datsun GO, all models listed here come with a petrol engine and an automatic option. But the GO will get a new CVT variant soon and the carmaker has begun accepting bookings for the same.

    • The S-Presso, Celerio, Alto K10 and GO only come with one engine option while the Kwid, redi-GO and WagonR get a choice of engines depending on the variant.

    • Maruti offerings other than the S-Presso also get a CNG variant, but their prices have not been included in this analysis.
