Like most of the cars, the base LDI is recommended for buyers on a tight budget and have already shortlisted the Vitara Brezza. It gets basic safety features right. Besides these, Maruti has also covered the basic need-based features, especially a Bluetooth-enabled audio system.

Over the LDI, the VDI packs:

    • Aesthetics: Body-coloured door handles and outside rearview mirrors, wheel caps and roof rails
    • Audio: Gets remote control for the same music system that is offered with the LDI
    • Comfort features: rear power windows, driver’s window auto up/down, rear headrests, electric boot release and keyless entry
    • Safety: Maruti’s anti-theft system and five-door central locking (LDI misses the bootlid)

    Missing basic features:

    • Rear defogger

The VDI helps in making the Vitara Brezza look relatively premium compared to the barebones LDI, thanks to various aesthetic additions. However, we think the premium that the Maruti is charging for it is on the higher side. You could skip the manual VDI variant altogether. The VDI AGS a.k.a AMT, on the other hand, can be considered by people looking for a budget automatic sub-4m SUV as it is now the most affordable offering with an automatic transmission in the segment. The AMT option attracts a premium of around Rs 50,000, which is the usual amount that automakers charge for an AMT.

Over the VDI, the ZDI packs:

    • Wheels and tyres: 16-inch glossy black finish alloys with fatter 215/60mm tyres
    • Aesthetics: Halogen projector headlamps, fog lamps, gunmetal finish roof rails, tail lamps with LED elements, glossy black cabin inserts and instrument cluster with mood lighting
    • Comfort features: Steering-mounted controls for calling and audio, auto climate control, height adjustment for driver’s seat, 60:40 split rear seat,  illumination for luggage bay, footwell, and glovebox and rear armrest
    • Safety: Rear washer and wiper with demister

The ZDI completes the sporty styling of the Vitara Brezza that you see in commercials. Moreover, its premium over the VDI is quiet justified, given the additional goodies on offer. Even on the inside, the ZDI comes with additional features such as an auto climate control and height adjustable driver’s seat. In our books, the ZDI comes across as the most value for money variant in the Brezza’s lineup considering the premium over the VDI variant. The AMT version too is priced well under Rs 10 lakh, making it noticeably cheaper than direct rivals such as the AMT versions of the Nexon and the TUV300

Over the ZDI, the ZDI+ packs:

    • Audio system: 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto and MirrorLink. Also comes with built-in navigation and Bluetooth phone integration and voice command inputs. The unit gets two additional tweeters apart from the existing four-speaker setup. There’s an app-based remote as well

    Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

    • Comfort features: Reverse parking camera, passive keyless entry with push-button start-stop, cruise control (only manual), rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, auto foldable ORVMs, cooled glove box, front armrest and height adjustable front seatbelts

While both the ZDI and ZDI+ look identical on the outside, the latter adds zing on the inside with the addition of various premium features. However, the premium over the ZDI is nearly Rs 1 lakh that too when the ZDI itself is decently specced. Having said that, if you don’t have any budget constraints, you might as well go for the top-spec variant as it offers all the bells and whistles that sub-4m SUVs nowadays come with, including smartphone integration.  Maruti also offers dual-tone paint option in the ZDI+ variant, which attracts a premium of Rs 15,000 and 22,000 over the single-tone MT and AMT version,
