Maruti WagonR becomes second largest selling Maruti car in India

In its recent report, Indian car maker Maruti India has said that sales of its car Maruti Wagon R has touched the milestone of mammoth 10,000 lakh units. Wagon R was launched in 1999 and since then it has become a favorite car. Besides Wagon R, Maruti Alto, Maruti 800 and Maruti Omni are the other models that have also crossed this benchmark and were added in the list of the most popular Maruti cars in India. With the recent development, Maruti Wagon R also became the second highest selling Maruti car in the country with sales of about 15,000 units per month after Maruti Alto that has over 30,000 unit sales every month.

The company believes that the facelift in the form of the New Maruti Wagon R last year has attracted new customers and has helped boost sales of the car in the country. The new Maruti Wagon R underwent many upgradations and a complete model change. The new Maruti Wagon R price in India is Rs3.36 lakh and Rs4.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the 998cc car is available in petrol, CNG and LPG variants. However, the petrol variant is the most selling but there is also an increase in the demand of CNG and LPG variants due to the consistent price hikes since last year. In the last financial year 2010-11 the company sold over 1.63 lakh units which was the highest growth ever since its launch. The company currently does not export this model. Notably, the company sold inspiring 5,902 units in the first year of the launch.
