The Mercedes-AMG GT S is an exquisite machine. Right from the exhaust symphony to the 3.7 seconds 0-100kmph grunt, all the way up to the 310kmph top speed, the car does not fall short to any of your expectations. And now, Mercedes is working on an ‘R’ edition of the supercar. Spotted while being tested, the car is said to feature 578PS of power and more aerodynamic characteristics to prevent it from taking off. The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R is expected to make its first official appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016.
Mercedes has not released any details about this car, but the tyre maker, Michelin has confirmed that the car will make an appearance in their supercar paddock. The AMG GT R will continue to use the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 from the GT S which will now produce 578PS of power and the car will ride on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R-compound rubber. Also, to go with the additional 68PS power over its predecessor, the car will most likely witness tweaks in the chassis, steering, brakes and suspension for better handling. This track focused version includes a front splitter, large front air intakes, new intakes in the bonnet and added slats to direct air over the body. It is expected to go on a diet and be at least 100kg lighter.
This supercar will rival the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Aston Martin Vantage GT12. Prices are expected to be around the Rs 1.4 crore mark outside India. It will be a worthy flagship in the AMG GT range and with improved power, torque and aerodynamics, the car is expected to be a lot more faster. Stay tuned for more updates on this upcoming beast.
