Mercedes India plans to ramp up production

There is no doubt about the fact that the Indian car market is surely booming and the demands are on a all-time high. These demands also include the luxury car segment. Merecedes Benz, the German luxury car maker is planning to increase its production at its Chakan plant near Pune.

Mercedes Benz will soon start the second shift at its Chakan manufacturing unit. The company has invested more than Rs. 200 crores on this plant so that the rising demand of its vehicles can be met. Debashis Mitra, Mercedes-Benz India Management Board-Member (Sales and Marketing) Director said that the company will be commencing the second shift operations shortly at the Chakan plant which has an installed capacity of 5,000 units per shift a year.

In the past 7 months, the company has introduced 16 new models and now it is all set to save and re-secure its position as the top luxury car maker in the Indian market in terms of sales. At present, BMW is the segment leader after it overtook Mercedes' sales last year. Merecedes Benz has launched its new  SLS AMG model this week itself. The new SLS AMG costs Rs. 2 to Rs. 2.5 crores and is powered by 6.2L engine which accelerates up to 317 kmph. The company is also planning to launch a new SUV in India before the end of this year.
