Mercedes-Benz India which is all set to launch the GL Class SUV on May 16 in New Delhi, has been said to planning the launch of the A-Class hatchback in May itself, our sources reveal. The company is also planning to roll out the diesel version of its sports tourer B Class in India, which should happen sometime in June 2013.
The A-Class hatchback is built on the Merc's newly developed front-wheel drive MFA plaform onwhich the B-Class too has been built. The A-Class is the second vehicle to have been built on the MFA plaform. As of now B-Class (petrol) is the most affordable vehicle sold by Mercedes Benz in India at a starting price of Rs 25 lakh, so to lure more buyers, the company has plans to launch the A-Class Hatchback at an even more competitive pricing. However, the company hasn't disclosed the exact price range the A-Class will come in.
The A-Class hatchback will derive its power from a 1.8-litre turbocharged diesel powertrain, that mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, will churn out the maximum power output of 134bhp. The upcoming B-Class diesel version too will have the similar engine. If rumours are to be believe, Mercedes-Benz might also bring the special AMG edition of the A-Class in India later to excite the enthusiasts.
