While buying a car, the foremost thing that one would look for is its safety, especially your child's safety in it. While there are number of features incorporated in newer generation cars, Mercedes Benz is one such company that has come up with a super advanced and safer child seat for kids. The concept was initially showcased in the ESF Experimental Safety Vehicle.

Dirk Ockel from Benz stated that they have been working on the process of inventing its a commercial experimental child seat that can be sold in the market.

Mercedes Benz showcased the ESF to Australia to exhibit its ongoing work on making cars that are not just safe for the car owners but also provided safety to those involved in the accident or crash.

The ESF has a number of technologies that are experimental as of now and the company hopes to make it commercial by spinning the same into production soon. The child seat being in the process of development clips into Isofix mounting brackets at the back seat or rear seat and offers considerable side and head protection as compared to conventional child seats.

Ockel commented that the child seat utilizes an tubular steel which is adjustable to make a strong and sturdy cell around a kid, fitted with head and side padding or cushion. Interesting thing is that the child seat in question does not have a back and utilized the cushioning effect of the rear seat which actually helps in giving sufficient legroom and a protective space. This idea with the seat seems a better one when compared to conventional child seats that come as a shell shaped seat.

The child seat however may not make it to Australia where it was shown as the new child seat utilises a Isofix international fastening system that clips to two brackets present in each of the rear seat and the cars sold in Australia already possess Isofix brackets incorporated into cars as standard feature.

Ockel concluded that there always seems to be a fight between safety and engineers since safety adds weight to the car while the engineers try to take the weight out from it.
