As the latest rumour has it, a diesel Nano is strongly speculated. Whether it is going to be launched at the prestigious 2012 Auto Expo as many car manufacturers do, or slated for a quiet launch sometime later is yet to be seen. Feedback on Tata Nano of late has been fraught with innuendos, especially during the past two years. However, country’s leading car manufacturer has decided to spruce up the tarnished image for a change, bringing the new Tata Nano version just recently. Now, Tata Nano diesel is the only option left with Tata Motors to save its pride from falling any further.

Unlike any low cost cars, which are offered with an LPG variant with the fear of high price, Tata Motors has been mulling for quite some time to introduce a diesel variant instead. An additional Rs 80,000 – Rs 1,00,000 raise in the Tata Nano diesel price is however expected as with any diesel car. The new Tata Nano variant has not been quite of a disappointment either. With the engine makeover apart from the exteriors and the interiors expert touches, the new variant is likely to keep the customers satisfied for some time. The improvement in the engine department grabs the attention of the consumers, which had been slightly disappointing factor earlier. The 624 cc engine is now capable of producing 38 PS from 35 PS earlier and an improvement in torque output takes it to 51 Nm from 48 Nm.

The top speed attained by the car is now revved up to 105 kmph from 100 kmph. The mileage is also worked upon for better to offer 25.4 kmpl from 23.6 kmpl. Mileage has always been the trump card for Tata Nano. The diesel variant is likely to leave its competitors far behind at an expected fuel economy of 30-35 kmpl, which is neither heard of, nor seen before. Moreover, Tata Motors has considered the feedback from the consumers seriously and has worked on it. The Tata Nano variants now get the driver and the passenger side OVRMs, new plusher interiors with some enticing color tones of beige, black and graphite in its three variants. The air-conditioner with the heating facility is offered in the car as an optional feature. In all, its not a bad deal at all.
