The new-gen model is the sharpest Elantra Hyundai ever came up with, and is expected to hit the showrooms soon!
Hyundai India continues to test the next-generation Elantra, which is expected to be launched soon. The Korean automaker began testing the sedan in India soon after the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in February. Recently, it has been spied testing in Chennai, where Hyundai has a manufacturing facility.
The new Elantra has adopted Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, which makes it look sharper, edgier and more athletic than the vehicle it will replace. The second iteration of Hyundai’s Fluidic design language was introduced by the Santa-FE and has played a major role in making the Elite i20 and the Creta successful in the country.
Speaking of the cabin, the interiors are not as flamboyant as its exteriors, but are functional and, since it is a Hyundai, the cabin is loaded to the brim. The highlight will be the new seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.
Mechanically, it is expected to carry forward the same powertrains -- 1.6-litre CRDi diesel and 1.8-litre dual VTVT petrol. However, the new Elantra has been on sale in a few countries and, there, the sedan is being offered with a new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. But we are not sure whether this will be offered in India or not. Moreover, expect updated automatic transmission, besides the standard six-speed manual.
Hyundai will be bombarding the Rs 15-20 lakh price bracket with the relaunch of the Tucson and the new Elantra, both slated both slated to become available this year. The Elantra will compete with the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Chevrolet Cruze, the Skoda Octavia and the VW Jetta, while the Tucson will be largely pitched against the Honda CR-V.
