The nex-gen Chevrolet Cruze spotted in the Factory facility parking lot – undisguised ahead of the world premier at the Beijing Motor Show next month (20th April onwards). The new car will fill the shoes of the the ongoing model and the current version might step down like the company did with Optra Sedan back in 2009, when the Cruze was introduced. If the ongoing car is retained, which seems to be a possibility then the car will get 'Classic' badge and will compete with the C-segment offerings. We had earlier covered the Cruze in camouflaged avatar.
Speaking of the design, oh boy! the car looks way more hotter than the current version on sale. First of all, the car is completely new from ground-up and shares no resemblance with the ongoing Cruze. The front facade is now more streamlined and sharper than the masculine current one. It gets snazzy Bi-Xenon swept back headlamps and day time LED in the fog lamp housing. The vehicle gets split grille but the iconic 'bowtie' badge is placed on the upper grille rather than in the middle – understated move. The car didn't loose the muscularity of the Cruze - for what it was known for 'the American muscle'. The side profile looks sharper with prominent crease line. The rear profile gets wrap-around tail lamps with chrome appliqué running throughout the profile. The vehicle gets dual tone bumper and boot-lit integrated high-stop lamp.
The interiors of the sedan is a major step-up, the car in the spy shot get brown leather wrapped dashboard and upholstery (GM India might ditch the leather wrapped dashboard but we totally loved it, don't we – GM you listning). The other features include large screen infotainment system, sporty two-dial instrumentation cluster and new smaller multifunction steering wheel. The overall layout seems upmarket with lot of chrome thrown around – typical of 'American cars'.
Mechanically, the Cruze is expected to retain the current diesel unit, 2.0 VCDI motor gathers 166PS of power and 380Nm of max torque. GM might introduce the nex-gen Cruze with the new turbo charged 'EcoTec' range of petrol engines, as the Cruze is lacking a petrol counterpart (finger crossed).
Cruze is the flagship sedan for GM India and the car is doing great for the manufacturer ever since its launch, though sales dipped lately due to the sudden surge in the D-segment. The nex-gen sedan will compete against the segment top seller Skoda Octavia, the new 11th generation Toyota Corolla, the updated Renault Fluence and Neo-Fluidic Hyundai Elantra. Like the C-segment, the D-segment is also completely revamped and it is expected that the second generation Cruze will be around this festive season or by early next year. Watch out Octavia!
