Next gen Smart ForTwo and ForFour video teased, unveiling on July 16

Smart Automobile, the name might be new to Indian car buyers, but in Germany and U.K, the brand is known for its small two seater and four seater cars. Owned by Daimler AG, the automaker recently teased the video of its upcoming ForTwo and ForFour cars which will be unveiled on July 16th, 2014. The design in upcoming vehicles is heavily based on the concept cars known as Smart ForJoy and Smart ForUs. The new vehicles feature more of a hexagonal design with a new two-box profile.

As seen in the teaser video, the new vehicle reminds much of its predecessors. The buy-eye headlamps and squared panels are carried from the old versions. The car gets hexagonal pattern in both exterior and interior profile. Smart ForTwo and ForFour shares a large similarities in terms of engine assembly and interior features. The manufacturer is offering a wide range of engine options. Smart vehicles are expected to carry a three-cylinder 898cc engine that develops a maximum power output of 89bhp or a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated unit which develops a 70bhp power.

The small engine is coupled either to five-speed manual or a six-speed dual clutch transmission while the company is biding adieu to its automated manual gearbox. Moreover, the future holds an option of fully-electric ForTwo while the soft-top version will be launched after the arrival of hardtop variant. In terms of safety of its passengers, the manufacturer has used tridion safety cell and wheel-at-each-corner stance along with the Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with hill start assist, two front airbags and Hydraulic brake assist.

Its is expected that the company will launch the vehicles at a starting price of £10,000 (INR 10 lakh).
