We already have some idea about how the next generation Hyundai Elite i20 could look like in India thanks to the multiple test mule sightings. And now we have information regarding the powertrains the third-gen premium hatchback would be running.
Just like the Venue sub-compact SUV, the Elite i20 will also be getting Hyundai-Kia’s latest BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Kia Seltos. It churns out 115PS/250Nm and is coupled to a 6-speed MT but gets the option of a torque converter automatic as well in the SUV. This unit will power other Hyundai cars as well in the BS6 era. However, it is expected to be in a slightly detuned state compared to the Kia compact SUV.
Currently, the Elite i20 is powered by a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel (90PS/220Nm) that also does duties in the lower variants of the Verna, Venue as well as the Creta. Rest assured, the Kia Seltos will be playing benefactor in more ways than one for Hyundai cars. It will also be sharing platform and engine with the 2020 Hyundai Creta.
Additionally, the new generation Elite i20 is also going to receive the 7-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission) option from the Venue. This transmission is paired to the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder T-GDI which develops 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque, same as the current-gen Euro-spec i20. Since there already exists a petrol-DCT combination in the Venue, it is safe to assume that the same could also make its way to the upcoming Elite i20 hatchback.
As of now, the Hyundai Elite i20 only gets a 1.2-litre petrol (83PS/115Nm) with a 5MT and optional CVT. It is expected to be retained in the lower variants of the hatchback for an enticing entry-level price point.
In terms of looks, the 2020 Hyundai Elite i20’s fascia will feature a lot more prominent front grille, similar to the upcoming Elantra facelift. Wondering what features it could get and how it could look? Check this out.
Pricing of the next-gen Hyundai Elite i20 is expected to remain largely unchanged at around the Rs 5.52 lakh and Rs 9.34 lakh mark. It could debut at the Auto Expo 2020 with a launch later during the year.
