Nissan India is planning to expand its dealership base with 82 new dealerships in India by 2012 as the company is preparing to start Micra production for local and export sales from May this year. Nissan will establish the network by 2012 as it endeavours to rival competitors who already have a foothold in the fast-growing Indian market, as per the Japanese media reports.
It is expected that the sales of Micra model in India will start from July this year and company has already aimed to sell 80,000 units of this model by the end of FY 2011. It will start selling Nissan Micra model initially at its 20 dealerships in India.
The Micra will be the first made-in-India car from Nissan in the country, which will be manufactured at company's Chennai plant. After analysing the performance of the Micra model in Indian market the company will export this car to other countries from India. Same as the country's top car makers Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor, the Nissan India has designated its new plant as a production hub to export vehicles mainly to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, at lower cost.
Company has invested heavily (US$990m) in its Chennai plant to manufacture the Micra model which is currently available in UK and Japan markets. Nissan has created a local supplier park consisting of six companies, and it has estimated Chennai will create 6,000 jobs in the City.
