Nissan India begins work on another small car in India

Nissan Motors, the Japanese car manufacturer recently reported to be working on the small car project for its unit Nissan India. Giving a kick start to the project, Nissan India has started with the market research and product positioning work. At present the company has Nissan Micra in its hatchback portfolio and now the upcoming small car will be shelved below it, at a price range of sub Rs 3 lakhs. The direct target of this small car from Nissan will be Hyundai i10, Tata Indica, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti A-star, Mauti Wagon R, Zen Edtilo and Maruti A-star.

Nissan India earlier was planning to work on the project in joint contribution with India based Hinduja Group which is also the promoter of Ashok Leyland. Nissan intended to bring the new small car for the Indian market in association with it but Hinduja Group dint show much interest in the proposed project thus Nissan took a bold move and triggered the project itself.

Addressing the event, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama who is the MD & CEO of Nissan India commented that the company is not going to leave any stone unturned and they will come out with the best small car plan for ever growing Indian Auto market. He admitted the fact that Ashok Leyland is one of the potential player in market and Nissan was looking forward for a lucrative alliance with the company but he also said that they will start the project alone as Nissan is a flexible company. Nissan is operating globally and in many countries it is a solo player while at some places it is working in collaboration thus a rejection from Ashok Leyland will not put a halt on the Indian small car project and company will operate as a solo unit.

Nissan India is expecting big from the Indian small car segment as it is a significant sector in Indian Automobile Market which is showing an exponential growth. This small car launch will play a major role in establishing the company's footprint in Global market as well.
