Nissan India expand its road safety programme

In an effort to enhance road safety awareness, Nissan Safety Driving Forum (NSDF) is being extended to more cities across India. NSDF is part of Nissan’s ‘Blue Citizenship’ global social responsibility platform, under which the company addresses various issues that affect road users, including fatalities on the road. While in its previous two phases more than 70,000 people joined the initiative, in its third phase, the company aims to reach 1,00,000 more road users. During the phase, NSDF will visit eight more cities across seven states, including Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Vadodara, Nagpur, Vizag, Mangalore, Kochi. 

Speaking over the initiative, Mr. Guillaume Sicard, Deputy President, Nissan India Operations said, “The Nissan Safety Driving Forum helps drivers as well as passengers to reflect on their perception of safety while driving. We at Nissan follow our global vision to not only develop exciting and innovative products, but also to enrich peoples’ lives through sustainable social development of which NSDF is a shining example.”

During the initiative, the company will be educating the general public about the importance of safety features like seatbelts and airbags through specially designed simulators and panel displays. Built in association with Bosch, a rollover simulator, comprising of an actual Nissan Micra, recreates a safe rollover situation to demonstrate the importance of wearing seatbelts while in a car. A separate airbag simulator, comprising of a driver seat – steering wheel set up, displays how an airbag inflates in the event of a frontal impact by simulating crash conditions. Furthermore, the company will also teach about onboard safety technologies, including the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

“Our aim and conviction is to educate people on road safety through tangible methods like simulators, not just in theory. In this phase, we have increased the number of cities for reach. We have invested INR 130 million in NSDF in India so far,” Sicard added.
