Nissan Micra drives jump in year on year sales

Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today announced that it has clocked a domestic sales of 1632 nos. in the month of June 2011 compared to 77 units in June 2010.The Micra compact hatchback - the first model to be produced at Nissan’s Chennai plant - is driving this sales boost and accounted 1609 units in June 2011. The X-TRAIL lifestyle SUV, Teana sedan and iconic 370Z sports car comprised the remaining sales.

Since it went on sale last July, Nissan has already sold over 16,688 Micras in India, and it continues to be exported to world markets.

NMIPL Managing Director & CEO, Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama said: "Last month we celebrated the 100,000th Micra to be produced at Chennai, and the model is continuing to be very popular across all regions. The current slower growth in the market is impacting the overall industry, but Nissan is well-placed for future growth. "In addition to innovative new models like the all-new global sedan which will be launched later this year, we are continuing to significantly expand our dealer network, aiming for more than 100 dealerships by 2013."
