Nissan mulls to export 20% India made mini vans

To make India as a major part of global auto market, Nissan is planning to sell 20% of the mini vans made in India abroad. These mini-vans are manufactured by Nissan in alliance with Ashok Leyland. According to the VP of Nissan India, Mr. Andy Palmer, Nissan India is in full plans to launch passenger carrying car, also known as Mini-Van by the year of 2012.around 55,000 units will be manufactured. And Nissan will export around 20% of made in India mini vans.

Mr. Palmer also said that the joint venture of Ashok Leyland and Nissan is 51:49. And this joint venture doesn’t own a dedicated manufacturing plant; therefore, the mini vans will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Automotives’ facility. This Renault-Nissan manufacturing plant is situated on the outer skirts of Chennai at the place known as Oragadam. Even Micra has its facility at the same place. It is expected that the Ashok Leyland and Nissan India’s joint facility will be up and operating in some 2 years or so, where the mini vans will be manufactured.

As per Nissan India, “Dost” was the initial demonstration of joint alliance with Ashok Leyland. Dost is basically a 1.25 ton of goods carrier vehicle that is up for sale by Ashok Leyland via its very own Network. Nissan no doubt has manufacturing experience, global knowledge and the most importantly it abides to the quality parameters. Both Ashok Leyland and Nissan as a team will surely work together and produce the best quality product for the consumers. There will be high local content in the minivan to be produced by Nissan and Ashok Leyland. Apart from the minivan, this joint alliance is also planning for two new ventures, one for the engines and the gear boxed and the other one for researches.
