After Toyota Etios went all diesel, its time for new bride Nissan Sunny to welcome its diesel sister soon. The current ratio of petrol to diesel cars in many segments is at a staggering 20:80. It was expected that Nissan Sunny diesel will be unveiled at Auto Expo in Delhi. But the Japanese car maker is in hurry to score some extra points this festive season by lunching Nissan Sunny diesel before December 2011. Taped test mules have been running around Oragadam plant near Chennai for many months now and the launch seems to be on the cards.

Nissan Sunny has just barged in the bustling B+ segment cars and had caught attention of many customers by its low price. Nissan Sunny price starts at Rs 5.78 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Now even if the price of diesel variant which will enter the C+ segment is increased by Rs 70-80 thousand, it makes up to Rs 6.48 lakh which is quite nominal for a diesel car. The petrol version of Nissan Sunny is already said to give threat to Maruti SX4, Tata Indigo Manza and Ford Fiesta Classic. The diesel variant is expected to increase the list of its rivals.

The diesel variant is expected to have even better fuel economy which is estimated to be about 22 kmpl on highway and 16 kmpl in city. The speculated specifications are that the diesel model will have the 1.5 liter-85 BHP-200Nm CRDI engine. Otherwise the specifications are expected to be the same as on petrol variants. The company is hastening this process just because of the rising petrol prices and increasing craze for diesel cars.
