Fuel prices have been slashed by the government-owned oil companies - IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL). The price of the petrol has been reduced by 74 paise a litre while diesel gets a reduction of Rs.1.30 a litre. The new prices will be effective from midnight April 15, 2016, that is tonight.

Earlier this month on 4th, the prices were increased by 98 paise a litre for diesel and Rs. 2.19 a litre for the petrol.

"The current level of international product prices of petrol and diesel and rupee-US dollar exchange rate warrant a decrease in prices, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with his price revision," Indian Oil said in a statement.

"The movement of prices in the international oil market and rupee-US Dollar exchange rate shall continue to be monitored closely and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes," it added.
