Renault has come up with the 1-litre variant of Kwid with AMT Easy-R transmission, at the Auto Expo 2016. The new version launch will further help Renault to expand Kwid’s success in higher segments. The 800cc variant has already crossed over 85,000 bookings and has received appreciation for its value for money aspects. This 1-litre version is expected to be launched in mid-2016 with a price tag of around Rs. 4 lac. Check out the complete Expo coverage of Renault Kwid right here
We always knew that Renault will be updating its entry-level hatchback by swapping the 800cc, 54bhp motor for a more powerful 1.0-liter power-plant. But in addition, the power-packed Kwid will also incorporate premium safety features like ABS and Airbags. According to a Motorbeam report, the upgraded Kwid will come with safety features that will include ABS and dual-front airbags as the French automaker is addressing the concerns raised by the consumers. The 1.0-liter Renault Kwid might also feature an Easy-R AMT gearbox, in addition to the updated safety equipment and a gruntier powerplant.
The Chennai-based automaker is currently facing the dilemma caused by the heavy rains, which has also extended the delivery period for some of the variants of Kwid by months. The car gained a lot of attention when it was launched a couple of months ago because of its plethora of segment-first features and a highly competitive price tag that falls in the range of Rs. 2.6-3.5 lacs. The current model of Renault Kwid features a 3 cylinder, 799cc Petrol motor that Renault and Nissan have designed together. The engine produces 54bhp of power and 72 Nm of torque and comes coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox. Renault Kwid also claims a maintenance cost, which is 19% cheaper than that of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and an ARAI certified mileage of around 25kmpl.
However, this article cannot be summed up without mentioning the upcoming Maruti Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 as they will kickstart a new segment of mini SUVs. Among the two, the latter is scheduled to be launched on 15th January next year and as far as Mahindra KUV100 specs are concerned, it will be powered by 1.2 litre 82bhp petrol and 1.2 litre 77bhp diesel engines. It is most likely to be linked to a 5 speed manual transmission.
