Renault mulls a sub-Pulse car to rival VW Up! and Hyundai i10!

Renault India seems to be on a car launching spree. The French auto giant recently unveiled the third car from its proposed product line-up, Renault Pulse on October 29th. Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn has now hinted that they might consider a sub-Pulse hatchback to challenge the upcoming Volkswagen Up! and Hyundai i10 in B segment cars. The Renault sub-Pulse is said to be developed jointly by Renault and its subsidiary Nissan. However, the small car is still being contemplated and is unclear as to which auto manufacturers’ badge its going to sport.

The Renault-Nissan A-platform new car is likely to be showcased as a concept car in 2014, which opens the possibility of its launch in 2015. While the speculations are rife about the Nissan India launching the small car, Renault will have gained enough sales momentum in the country to be able to launch the new small car by then. With the mentioned time frame, it is going to be a considerable time before Renault-Nissan will launch their A-platform car. Meanwhile, Renault has three more cars lined –up out of which Renault Pulse and Renault Duster are going to be introduced in 2012.

On the other hand Nissan had mentioned earlier about its plans to introduce a compact car based on Nissan Micra hatchback around 2013. Apparently, Nissan is envisaging to make its entry into the A segment cars which is currently dominated by Maruti Alto. Some of the new cars which will soon make their debut in the A and B car segments are Volkswagen Up! And Skoda Citigo. Ford India is also mulling to introduce a hatchback in the A segment under Ford Figo and Seat Mii is another possibility in the same segment.
