Renault is planning to introduce five models in India in 2 years, one of which will debut in the next 3 months

Renault India has opened a new design centre near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which is now the carmaker's largest design centre outside Paris, France. Alongside this, Renault also shared its future plans for the Indian market. This move follows the company’s recent takeover of the Renault-Nissan alliance manufacturing plant in Chennai and the global unveiling of its new brand identity in February 2025.

Let us take a look at the future plans of Renault in India:

Renault has stated that it will be introducing 5 models in India in two years, one of which will debut in the next 3 months. All of these products will be designed and manufactured in India.

The French carmaker has also revealed that the 5 launches will include two new models, a generation update on two currently-available models and an EV. Notably, none of these models, including the EV, will be exclusively made for India. Going by the timeline, the new models could be the long-awaited Renault Duster and the Renault Bigster (7-seater Duster) and the new generation updates could be basically facelifted versions of the Renault Triber and Renault Kiger. Details of the EV are yet to be known and we'll have to wait for an official confirmation from the carmaker before commenting anything.

Talking about the segments, Renault is aiming to increase its market share in India to 3 percent. It will also focus more on CNG, strong hybrid and EV segments.

Out of these cars, we expect the Renault Triber or Renault Kiger facelift to be the first one, which will be revealed in the next three months. The French carmaker had earlier said that the Renault Duster and its 7-seater sibling will debut in India in 2026.

As mentioned earlier, the Chennai facility is the carmaker’s biggest design centre outside France. It is spread across 1500 square meters and is equipped with futuristic amenities including an exhibition space for 3D model evaluation, a visualisation centre and an advanced virtual reality (VR) integration.

That said, during the launch of the Renault Design Centre in Chennai, a futuristic-looking 3D sculpture called “renault .rethink” was showcased, but the carmaker has said that it will not see the light of the day. That said, its silhouette with the flared out wheel arches is very reminiscent of the upcoming Duster.
