Last quarter saw a steep decline in utility vehicle sales segment in contrast to the overall car segment that has witnessed a steady growth. Although, the pick of the lot was recently launched Hyundai Creta that made an excellent score of 23,000.
According to a report by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturer(SIAM), the UV segment has seen a drop of over 2.5 % in the April to September quarter. A record fall of 8.56% in the month of September alone has decreased the sale from 273,323 units to 266,327 units with respect to the same quarter last year. Although, one out of the 10 most selling utility vehicles - Mahindra XUV500 has seen a marginal growth. However, with slew of launches happening last quarter, the pride of the UV segment was saved to some extent. The segment leader for the quarter- Hyundai Creta has successfully marked an overall sales of 23,000 units since its launch, among which 7,256 units of this compact SUV were sold in September itself.

Toyota's best selling multi purpose vehicle Innova, too has seen a crumble of 7.5% in its sales numbers from the last year. Toyota Innova acquired third position in the list of top 10 by selling 5,430 units in September 2015 against the 5,876 units in September 2014.
From 5,672 units in September 2014, to 2,641 units last month - Maruti's Ertiga slipped to ninth position from fourth last year. The only MUV in the list has recorded the biggest drop of about 53.4% from the last year. Another Maruti product that was launched in August, has also managed to secure a position among the best selling UVs. Maruti Suzuki's first crossover in the country, S-Cross made its way by selling 3,603 units.
Mahindra's TUV300 and Scorpio stood fourth and fifth in the list as they managed a sale of 4,321 units and 4,313 units respectively. However, XUV500 acquired the eighth position by making a distinguished entry in the list. The only UV in this staggering list has managed to gain numbers by selling 3,110 units in September 2015 as against 3,035 units in the same month last year.
The costliest UV in the list- Toyota Fortuner stays on the last position with a sale of 1,089 units in September as compared to 1,745 units in the corresponding month last year.
