Skoda Citigo will not make it to 2012 Auto Expo

Skoda CitiGo, basically a re-branded version of Volkswagen Up!, was speculated to be launched in India early next year, but now it seems the auto major plans to launch it towards the end of the next fiscal. The company has also ruled out the possibility of introducing it at the 2012 Auto Expo, where most of the automobile manufacturers launch their respective new models.

However, there are mixed views about the car launch in India. There are other reports suggesting that the small car from the Czech auto giant might not be making it to the Indian shores as early as expected. Ideally, a new car from a subsidiary of a parent company is launched after the original car launch. Following the pattern, Skoda might be envisaging to launch its small car Skoda Citigo after Volkswagen Up! launch. With more or less similar features and specifications as Volkswagen Up!, Skoda Citigo price is expected to be under Volkswagen Up! range.

Though the fascia of the Skoda Citigo might share similarities with Skoda Fabia hatchback, the engine is the same 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine churning out the peak power of 59 Bhp and 74 Nm peak torque. Hence, the Skoda car fans anticipating for the small car with high fuel economy from the Skoda's fleet might be slightly disappointed. The car is intended to take upon the potential rivals like Maruti A-Star, Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo.
