Skoda has introduced the 2017 model year Octavia with added features and a new entry-level 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged TSI motor in Europe. The Czech automaker highlighted that a three-cylinder engine has been offered for the first time in the history of the Octavia.

The new 1.0-litre three pot unit replaces the previous 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 999cc motor produces 115PS and provides 200Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500rpm. In combination with a 7-speed DSG automatic, the new 1.0-litre TSI accelerates the Skoda Octavia from 0-100kmph in 9.9 seconds while, with a 6-speed manual gearbox, 100kmph can be achieved in 9.6 seconds.

The new engine has attained eight per cent reduction in overall fuel consumption. An optional aero package which further increases efficiency includes a lowered chassis, active air flaps, a tailgate or roof spoiler for further improved airflow and low rolling resistance tyres. Moreover, the company is also offering an optional Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for Octavias with engine output more than 150PS.  The DCC makes it possible to adapt the steering and suspension depending on the driving modes — Comfort, Normal or Sport.

Speaking of the added features in the 2017 model year vehicle, the Climatronic AC comes with an allergen filter, the rear-view camera gets washer jets for cleaning, and in coming months it will get an optional umbrella under the front passenger seat (the Superb also offers an umbrella). The infotainment system now offers an optional Skoda Phonebox with wireless charging.
