The offspring of Volkswagen Group, Skoda is planning to introduce 3 new SUVs to its line-up of cars that still consists mainly of sedans, estate cars and hatches with the exception of the Yeti, which is the only compact SUV in the company's portfolio. One of the SUVs is to be a full blooded 7 seater model to break into the SUV segment and will be positioned above the Skoda Yeeti. Meanwhile, the company will also introduce a replacement for the slow selling Skoda Roomster.
This move by Skoda to replace the Roomster comes due to poor sales of the vehicle which sold a disappointing 35,000 models in the year 2012. According to the company, the MPV market does not have quite the scope of the compact SUV market, which yet another reason for the introduction of a replacement.
Additionally, Skoda also has plans to manufacture a new and more spacious budget family SUV that would be based on the parent company's long wheelbase Volkswagen Caddy. However, Skoda officials were quick to point out that this particular project was still in its planning phase and a final decision is yet to be made.
