With the introduction of the automatic gearbox, the Rapid AT is expected to command a premium of around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh over the manual variants as seen on its Volkswagen counterpart, the Vento.
Like the Vento, the automatic variants of the Rapid will be powered by the new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that churns out 110PS and 175Nm. Skoda offers the same engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox as well. While the manual variants have a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 18.97kmpl, the automatic variants return 16.24kmpl. The old 1.6-litre petrol was also offered with a 6-speed torque converter. The previously-offered 1.5-litre diesel engine came with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. Among its rivals, only the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento are offered with a 4-speed and 6-speed torque converter unit respectively, while the rest get a CVT gearbox. The Hyundai Verna Turbo is the only compact sedan to feature a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic.
Skoda has also revealed the colour options that will be offered with the automatic variants of the sedan:
Variant |
Colours |
Rider Plus |
Silver, white, grey and brown |
Ambition |
Silver, white, grey and brown |
Onyx |
White and blue |
Style |

In terms of changes, Skoda will offer different designs for the alloy wheels depending on the variant chosen. Apart from that, the feature list and the design of the Rapid AT will remain identical to that of the manual variants as this is just a mechanical change.
Skoda is set to launch the Rapid AT in mid-September. It will continue to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, and Volkswagen Vento.
