Skoda Rapid caught undisguised, launch expected in November

Skoda Rapid is going to be launched soon and paparazzi are all over the Mumbai-Pune highway to grab a look of this new car. And to much of their triumph, the sedan was caught in lenses undisguised. Detailed analysis figures out that Skoda Rapid is an extended sedan form of Skoda Fabia hatchback. This can also be understood by referring to Volkswagen Vento sedan being an extended version of Volkswagen Polo hatch. However car experts are not very pessimist on this modification. Skoda Rapid price is something everyone is still lingering on. Expected to come after Diwali the launch of Skoda Rapid may take place in November.

Featuring a typical Skoda front end, Skoda Fabia has inspired the Skoda Rapid a bit too much in this respect. The eye-shaped headlights and the Chrome finish front grille with fins attached vertically including the fog lamps are heavily borrowed by stylish Skoda Fabia. While the side profile is quite similar to the brethren VW Vento, Skoda India has modified the rear end with different tail lamps. These lending activities will probably help Skoda India to save a bunch of money as the plethora of borrowed parts could translate into cost efficiencies with the upcoming car. transmission will be common to both the petrol and diesel engine versions of the sedan, an automatic gearbox will definitely bear testimony to the petrol engine Skoda Rapid, just like VW offers for the Vento sedan.

So much so, that even the interiors will be shared with the Volkswagen Vento, which means that the Rapid will be a reasonably spacious car with soft touch and feel. Skoda India began production of Skoda Rapid at Volkswagen India’s plant in Chakan, near Pune a few days back only. The Rapid Sedan is built alongside the VW Vento and will see an 80% localization level right from the very start. Since Volkswagen Vento starts at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it is quite certain that Skoda Rapid will undercut its price settling somewhere around Rs 6.5 lakh-Rs 7 lakh. But the horrifying question for parent company, VW is to whether the lower price for Skoda Rapid, eat into the Vento’s sales.
