Skoda has launched the Superb facelift in the UK and also disclosed the specifications for its updated Superb flagship model. Having undergone a comprehensive facelift, both hatch and Estate versions offer a fresh and attractive design, an upgraded interior and significantly improved fuel economy andCO2 emissions.
On sale in the UK from 17 July 2013, prices for the facelift Superb range start at just £18,555 (about Rs 17 lakhs) for the 1.4-litre TSI 123bhp S hatch. The top-of-the-range Laurin & Klement Estate model costs £32,455 (est. Rs 30 lakhs) when paired with the 2.0 TDI CR 170PS DFP engine, 4x4 and 6spd Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). The facelift for India will be coming in sometime in the second half of this year, and it will retain the same 1.8-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines. We could expect Skoda to boost the diesel engine with an extra power of 30 horses to get it at power with its distant cousin, the Volkswagen Passat.
We doubt if the Czech-based manufacturer will get back the 3.6-litre V6 petrol mill on its flagship model. The company had introduced the Ambiente versions on its flagship, sometime back last year. Skoda has been successful with the new generation of Superb and the facelift could boost its sales, if we see a drastic upgrade in the bells and whistles that are on offer. The interiors have been revamped, and we can expect the flagship to be priced about Rs 20-25lakhs.
