The launching of an ultra compact car by Bajaj Auto and Renault's may delayed once again. This time the bone of contention is branding. A Renault spokesperson in India declined to comment on the status of the talks but a person close to both the groups said that the two are yet to settle issues over engine and over all car design. Managing Director of Bajaj Auto Rajiv Bajaj confirmed in a press conference in Mumbai that there are issues over branding. He also informed that a final joint venture yet to be signed. Both partners are already sparring over the design, positioning and some technical specifications of the new car. However, a insider informed that both the partners are still having differences over the engine and car design. Renault-Nissan wanted low cost competitive car while Bajaj Auto stressed on fuel efficiency over price. Due to the design and work on the power train was called off by Mr Bajaj as he wanted to restart the things done already. Renault COO Patrick Pelata admitted at the recent Geneva Motor Show in March that the Bajaj Auto MD was unhappy with the design and positioning of the proposed ultra-low-cost car.
