The 13th Edition of Auto Expo has seen tremendous growth in terms of product unveiling. From hatchbacks to sedans and SUVs, all dazzled the event with their charisma. Especially, when it comes to SUVs, there were a number of newcomers that were the showstoppers of the event. So let’s not wait and see the list of SUVs, showcased at the Auto Expo 2016.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

Vitara Brezza being the first compact SUV from the country’s largest carmaker, was the center of attraction. The with its stylish looks and upmarket interiors will be available in 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine, paired to 5-speed manual gearbox. Launch is expected by March 2016.

Renault Duster

Duster, the pioneer of the compact SUV segment was revealed in a new avatar. The car has gone through major cosmetic overhaul with the engine options remaining the same. However, there is an added goodie in the form of new AMT variant, which will help to counter the likes of Hyundai Creta in the segment.

Hyundai Tucson

The elder sibling of Hyundai Creta has been planned for the Indian market. Based on the fluidic design philosophy, the new kid in the block is powered by 2.0 litre diesel mill that produces 180bhp and 140Nm of torque, connected to six-speed MT. Launch of Hyundai Tucson is expected in the middle of this year.

Tata Nexon

Tata seems to be on a blitzkrieg in terms of new cars launches, planned for 2016. The homegrown automaker has prepared its weapon, the Nexon, against the growing popularity of Ford EcoSport and TUV300 in the segment, while there will be a major threat from Vitara Brezza as well. The new compact SUV from Tata will get its power from 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre Revotron diesel mills. The car might also be offered with AMT option.

Volkswagen Tiguan

The German automaker also showed its prowess at the Auto Expo 2016 with the unveiling of Tiguan SUV. The vehicle is a premium SUV and is based on VW’s MQB platform. With a 2.0 litre 148bhp diesel engine under the hood, Tiguan will lock horns with other formidable players in the segment like Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.

Nissan X-Trail

Nissan Terrano has brought in more than expected success to the Japanese automaker. With the growing interest for the SUVs in India, Nissan will be bringing its yet another SUV after the success of Terrano. Known as X-Trail, the car will be competing against Honda CR-V in the segment. The vehicle will be a hybrid car featuring a 2.0 litre petrol motor, in conjunction with 40.8PS electric motor, delivering a total output of 184.8 PS and 360Nm of peak torque. Nissan has also roped in actor John Abraham as its brand ambassador, so this might help the company to target young demographics.

Maruti Ignis

We also enlisted Maruti Ignis as this car will be entering an all new segment of micro-SUV, debuted by Mahindra KUV100 sometime back. The car has already been launched in the Japanese market and is being tested in India. The car showcased at the Auto Expo was a concept one, but the production version will be almost similar to the former. It would be powered by the same Fiat sourced 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine, mated to 5-speed manual transmission.

HONDA BR-V

Honda BR-V finally made its way to the Indian shores after been introduced in Thailand and Indonesian markets. The car holds the family styling at the exteriors, while there will be a lot more when it comes to cabin quality and features. The SUV/Crossover is brought to belittle the craze for Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The car will get energy to run from the 1.5 litre i-VTEC and 1.5 litre i-DTEC mills, mated to either 6-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. Launch is expected in second quarter of 2016.

Tata Hexa

In a bid to cement its position in the Indian car market, Tata has been on a road of transformation since 2014. New design strategy has been the core part of this transformation, that underpins its latest cars like Bolt, Zest, Zica and Kite 5. Following the same tactics, the homegrown automaker showcased the Hexa SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo. The car is the replacement of ageing Aria SUV and will be powered by VARICOR 400 2.2 litre diesel engine. Tata Hexa will be challenging Toyota Innova Crysta in the segment.

Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee SRT

Jeep finally made its entry into the Indian automotive scene with its mighty cars. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the parent company unveiled the Grand Cherokee and the powerful version Cherokee SRT at the Auto Expo. While the official launch will take sometime, we have figured out what the carmaker would offer under the hood. There will be 3.0 litre V6 EcoDiesel engine in Cherokee that produces 240bhp, while the Cherokee SRT will get the monster 6.4 litre HEMI V8 engine that makes 461bhp.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Another one from Jeep grabbed all the eyeballs at the Expo. Wrangler, the tough off-roader continues the legacy of the Jeep cars with its daunting stance it presented at the Auto Expo. The car will be powered by 2.8 litre diesel motor that generates 200bhp and 460Nm of torque, however, it might come in the detuned version for the Indian market.

Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar also presented its debut SUV F-Pace planned for the Indian market. The car has already been launched in the overseas market and is scheduled to be launched in the later half of this year. The vehicle is built on new lightweight aluminum architecture and will be offered in four variants in the Indian market. Now coming to the specs, Jaguar F-Pace will be offered in two engine options, depending on the trim. The base variants will feature 2.0 litre 178bhp motor, while the higher trims will be offered with 3.0 litre V6 engine that generates 296bhp.
