Looking at the Vitara Brezza and Nexon, Tata appears to trump in terms of concept execution!
Tata and Maruti Suzuki both showcased their upcoming sub-4m SUVs at the recently held 2016 Auto Expo. The Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza was in production spec guise, while Tata’s Nexon was in next to production form. Speaking of their respective concepts, XA-Alpha on which the Vitara Brezza is based, debuted at the 2012 Auto Expo, while Nexon concept debuted at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Now, coming to the matter on hand, Tata executed the concept in a unique way when compared to Maruti Suzuki. We all know concepts are always flashy as well as flamboyant and stand out in order to make their appearance felt at the show. Speaking of their execution, Maruti went more of a mainstream way with the Vitara Brezza. While Tata, on the other hand, did something unseen in this segment. As they say, best things happen either out of passion or desperation and latter might stand true for Tata Motors! The company now wants to get a hold of the passenger segment along with getting rid of all the previous imperfections.
Vitara Brezza has indigenously been developed in India by Maruti and it's a job well done. The automaker has put in everything new to this segment. To start with, the vehicle has optional contrasting roofs, projector headlamps with LED light guide and LED graphics in taillamps.
It also has a 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system, cruise control, colour changing instrument cluster, amongst others. All these things do make the Vitara Brezza flamboyant, but not so much as the original concept - XA Alpha. Like we mentioned above, it has taken a mainstream approach, although, nothing is wrong with that. On a brighter side, it also has personalised customisation!
Coming to Tata Nexon, the Nexon’s design is more of an Evoque-ish one and this is what sells nowadays! It does have a contrasting roof, but this coupe-like floating roof is separated by an element which runs along with the waistline and Tata said that it is made of ceramic material. It also features segment-first LED daytime running lights which surround the projector headlamps.
Even the interiors offer a dash mounted Tata’s ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of mechanicals, Nexon reportedly gets a powerful 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol. Transmission options would include a 6-Speed manual while an AMT AT is also expected. Maruti, on the other hand, offers a tried and tested DDiS200 - 1.3L diesel from Ciaz, as of now. In a nutshell, Vitara Brezza is a good product, but when juxtaposed, Tata has not played with the concept much!
