Tata Motors Group sold 77,575 units in May 2014

The global wholesales of Tata Motors Group, including the sales of Jaguar Land Rover for the month of May 2014 stood at 77,575 vehicles. While the cumulative wholesales for the fiscal year stands at 152,601 nos. In the commercial segment which includes Tata, Tata Daewoo and the Tata Hispano Carrocera range, the manufacturer retailed a total of 29,161 units and for the fiscal year, the company sold 56,215 vehicles.
Moreover, in the passenger segment, the homegrown manufacturer retailed 48,414 vehicles while for the financial year the automaker sold 96,386 units. Apart from this the company sold 9,416 units in the Tata passenger vehicle segment of which the cumulative sales were 17,251 units.
Tata Motors premium subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover sold 38,998 vehicles last month. Individually, Jaguar sold 6,848 vehicles in May while the for the fiscal year it is 12,552 vehicles. Furthermore, the SUV focused brand, Land Rover managed to retail 32,150 units last month while the cumulative wholesales were 66,583 vehicles. Together the Jaguar Land Rover sold 79,135 vehicles in the fiscal year.
Talking particularly of the passenger cars, the automaker witnessed a decline of 17%, as the company rolled 9,230 vehicles in May 2014 as compared to 11,134 units for the same period in last year. Tata's utility model lineup includes Sumo Gold, Sumo Grande, Magic based Venture, Safari & Safari Storme, Movus and recently updated Aria crossover. The company retailed 2,298 units of UVs last month as compared to 2,207 vehicles in May 2013.
To boost sales, the company is about to launch its two new products, Tata Zest and Tata Bolt. Both the vehicles were unveiled during the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Tata Zest is a compact sedan which is put against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze while its baby version Bolt comes under the hatch segment. Tata Bolt will lock horns with Maruti Suzuki Swift, Honda Brio and Hyundai Grand i10.
Both the vehicles houses company's latest development- Revotron engine, the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-intercooled, Multi-Point Fuel Injected (MPFI) petrol motor. The engine develops a maximum power of 83.8bhp and peak torque of 140Nm. The Revotron family follows Euro IV and BS IV emissions norms and can be coupled with CNG. With the arrival of its two new products, the manufacturer looks to resurrect the lost grounds in passenger segment.
